Emy’s Mochi Biscuit

The ladies in my hula practice love food. We always talk about food, restaurants and recipes and we love to bring some munchies when we practice. One Saturday, very hungry saturday,  I was just concentrating on my dance….while the girls were digging into these very tempting looking biscuits. Me being on my ‘Carb Cycle’ diet ( – this will be whole another post. I basically cycle one day of low carb followed by a regular day – I feel SOLID like a tiger. Grrrrlll ) I’m going to be a good girl. I’m going to be a good girl so I […]

Dreamy Peach Tart

Do you think of your next meal when you are at the gym? I do. We went to Whistler, Canada last summer – while my husband was at his ice hockey camp, I hit the gym. I’m on  my spin bike, flipping through food magazine and think of my next meal….And then I saw this recipe….I was not sure if it was my sweat or my drooling that was dripping down on my shirt. I took out my phone and made a quick snap shot of the page. Ever since then, this became one of our favorite tarts when peaches […]

Sake & Food Pairing

Besides wine, Sake is my favorite drink (adult beverage, I meant).  So when SakeOne (One of very few American sake makers. I think there are only 4…) contacted me, I was thrilled. They were going to send me a box of their premuim sake. Heck yeah! I will trade in food for sake anytime!!!  My gosh, I was pleasantly surprised by it’s taste. So pure and clean! (If you see the term “Ginjo” anywhere on the label, it means ‘Premium’ where at least the outer 40% of the rice gets milled away – protein/fat is removed for it’s best aromatic flavor. […]

Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake

My 8pm sweet tooth kicked in. I opened the freezer. And there is a lonely left-over pint of sorbet. Sorbet? Really?…… I wanted more than sorbet…..Moist, rich and decadent chocolate cake – I want a piece. Velvety, light and fluffy mousse – I want some of that too.  Dark chocolate – Mmmmmmmm, White chocolate – Yummmmmmmm. Why not have it all? I am a greedy girl. >*<  So next day, I went to a store determined to make this sumptuous dessert. Don’t get intimidated by it’s look. It’s actually pretty easy. But if you don’t feel like making it into […]

Gluten Free : Lemon-Millet Muffins

I spent last 2 days perfecting my gluten free muffins.  Muffin pans after muffin pans, measuring cups, spoons, whisk, pan and paper…. thank god for my amazing cleaning goddess,  Maria…. I have been waiting for the day you come to my house….**** Finally,  muffins approved by my husband!  You can’t tell they are gluten free.  In fact, I think they taste even better than regular ones.  Give them to your Tri-Athelet friends next door who always make you feel guilty.  Or freeze them.  I just took a blueberry muffin out from the freezer,  warmed it up, spread it […]

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

I actually never liked peanut butter. (I eat everything except for peanuts and raisins. Raisins scare me. ) I did not understand peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. But I’m telling you, people’s taste buds do change! Now I love peanut butter and jelly! ….I guess I grow younger. Leave me with peanut butter chocolate cookies, a glass of milk and a cartoon (I would prefer ‘American Dad’ over ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’),  I am a happy kid. Ingredients 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup white sugar 1/3 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup peanut butter (Crunchy one) 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 egg […]

Coconut Cloud Cake

I made this coconut cake for my New Year’s Eve party. We had my chef friend, John(the guy in black chef coat in the picture below) cook for us, just 10 people, casual and mellow NYE…  My husband usually makes a face when I make too many baked goods because he will eat the whole thing…not good for his girlish figure…but this cake is so light, moist and ‘cloudy’,  he said I can make this anytime, he will eat every last piece. :: Happy 2012!! :: Ingredients 2 cups plus 2 Tablespoon all purpose flour, plus more for pans 2 […]

Holding onto my last pumpkin puree of the year

Pumpkin is such a seasonal ingredient. It is almost impossible to find a can of pumpkin puree unless it’s around Thanksgiving time. (Yes, I use a canned ones for making pumpkin bread and am not ashamed of it. :)) Most markets stopped carrying them right after thanksgiving. So when I saw stacks of them at a health food store  (They were talking to me. ‘Last call, sister. Last call’) I bought 6 of them. ‘Cause I knew I won’t be seeing these babies till next year’s Thanksgiving ….so here I am, holding on to my last pumpkin puree of the year… I […]

Cardamom-Honey Christmas Cookies

I have been in a cooking slump for last few days. Short rib I made the other night didn’t cook in time for dinner, I burned my husband’s breakfast (I was making ‘Bull’s eye’-toast with egg in the middle), mango I bought was all dried out inside when I cut it, apples I bought were all bruised, kiwis were not ripe……. So I stepped a way from the kitchen….no more cooking for a few days. Christina, put down your spatula and especially that knife…Take a deep breath and step away from the kitchen. …………………………………………. So my husband hit Mcdoland’s for breakfast […]

Fennel ice cream

Don’t be so vanilla. ….  I love good vanilla ice cream especially the ones where you can see those little black dots. But my favorite flavor is Fennel! Fennel ice cream is new vanilla in my kitchen. I made it along with black sesame ice cream (I will post it!) last year’s Holiday party, all my guests loved it. How would I describe the taste?….Hmmm,,,,It does taste like vanilla (There is no vanilla added in the recipe though) but with a bit of an edge. Trust me, it will become your new favorite flavor. Now go  to your significant others, […]

Chocolate chip cookies

It is a cold and rainy Sunday, husband went to play ice hockey, turkey stock simmering in the kitchen for Thanksgiving, I made korean rice soup for dinner (I will post it next week!) and am reading my book on the couch….hmmm what else can I make for him since he won’t see me for next few days (I will be living in the kitchen preparing the thanksgiving feast (Is anyone freaking out like me? )? I decided to make him a batch of his favorite chocolate chip cookies! A small happiness you feel when you bite into a fresh baked […]

Angel Food Cake with White Chocolate Frosting

I had this most amazing angel food cake at a wedding cake shop in La Jolla one time. (It was $10 a piece….yikes) and since then I have been looking for that perfect angel food cake – ‘heavenly’ white and moist, not yellow, dry or rubbery. I have been looking and experimenting…and then I found this recipe in Italian…noooo. With the help of ‘google translate’ and measure conversion chart, I finally made my perfect angel food cake that was good enough to feed angels. I frosted it with white chocolate cream and drizzled cameral sauce over but you can do whatever you […]

Chocolate pudding bites

I look at a dessert menu first when I go to a restaurant…anyone else do the same?!? no? yes? What’s the fun of having dinner without dessert, right? yes? no? I hate when I’m excited to see the dessert menu and person you are having dinner with said ‘I’m good without it’. Wawawawaaaaaa~~~~ I made these little chocolate pudding bites at a culinary school as Petite four given out after dinner. And I make these quite often at home. I slowly find my way to the refrigerator, pop one of these in my mouth and make it way back to […]
