Szechuan Restaurant (Santa Barbara, CA)

When I go to a chinese restaurant, I don’t want to order orange chicken or Kung pao chicken….I want to see ‘Non-translated menu’! (Did you see Simpson’s Foodie episode where they ask for ‘non-translated menu’?) yup that’s me. :D So here I am, armed with my Taiwanese friend who can speak for me, sat down. And had her look at that special menu and order for me. Just order me ‘very’ chinese. And here I am, overwhelmed by joy of authentic taste of Szechuan…..boiled spicy beef something, steamed pork with cabbages, boiled spicy seafood soup with homemade dumplings, sizzling rice soup and snow pea shoot something…I don’t know what they are called so I just show them the pictures I saved in my phone whenever I order. They were really good. And my friend said they taste real authentic. Jackpot – do you know how hard it is to find good ethnic food in Santa Barbara? If you want really good authentic Szechuan food, try Szechuan restaurant! (It’s a real small place in mesa mall next to Starbucks)

I agree Szechuan on the Santa Barbara Mesa is fantastic. I have been going there for 10 years and have yet to be disappointed. The atmosphere, service and food are all great!!

I haven’t tried a lot of the food there, but my favorite dish there is the Zha Jiang Mian. Comfort Szcheuan food. :)
